چکیده

We investigate many-body phase diagrams of atomic boson-fermion mixtures loaded in the two-dimensional optical lattice. Bosons mediate an attractive, finite-range interaction between fermions, leading to fermion pairing phases of different orbital symmetries. Specifically, we show that by properly tuning atomic and lattice parameters it is possible to create superfluids with s-, p-, and d-wave pairing symmetry as well as spin and charge density wave phases. These phases and their stability are analyzed within the mean-field approximation for systems of K-Rb and K-Na mixtures. For the experimentally accessible regime of parameters, superfluids with unconventional fermion pairing have transition temperature around a percent of the Fermi energy. Ultracold atomic Fermi-Bose mixtures in bichromatic optical dipole traps: a novel route to study fermion superfluidity

The study of low density, ultracold atomic Fermi gases is a promising avenue to understand fermion superfluidity from first principles. One technique currently used to bring Fermi gases in the degenerate regime is sympathetic cooling through a reservoir made of an ultracold Bose gas. We discuss a proposal for trapping and cooling of two-species Fermi-Bose mixtures into optical dipole traps made...

Ultracold scattering properties of the short-lived Rb isotopes

We compute the scattering properties of rubidium atoms at ultracold temperatures, placing special emphasis on the radioactive isotopes Rb,Rb,Rb, and Rb. In combination with the more ‘‘conventional’’ isotope Rb, these species yield a wide variety of scattering behavior, with consequences for creating mixtures of Fermi-Fermi, Fermi-Bose, and Bose-Bose gases. In each of these mixtures we find at l...

Disordered Bose-Fermi mixtures: from fermi glasses to spin glasses and quantum percolation

The physics of cold atoms approaches nowadays the frontiers of modern condensed matter physics. In particular many important challenges of this disciplin can be addressed within the context of cold atoms [1]. In this talk, I shall present first a brief review of some of these challenges. I will focus then on those that could be addressed by using Bose-Fermi mixtures in the presence of disorder....

Molecular regimes in ultracold Fermi gases

The use of Feshbach resonances for tuning the interparticle interaction in ultracold Fermi gases has led to remarkable developments, in particular to the creation and Bose-Einstein condensation of weakly bound diatomic molecules of fermionic atoms. These are the largest diatomic molecules obtained so far, with a size of the order of thousands of angstroms. They represent novel composite bosons,...

Bifermionic Superfluidity in Toroidal Optical Lattices

We consider a gas of neutral fermions trapped in a specific optical trap that provides a tight confinement of a Fermi gas in a torus with a potential periodic along the azimuthal direction. The effective model is interacting fermions moving in a periodic potential along the ring. We show that the model demonstrates a novel type of superfluidity different from the BCS mechanism. This pure 1D qua...
